Excerpt from A Magic Within:

“What is that sound?” I asked in a whisper.  It was still far away but growing louder and closer by the minute.

Lydic put his arm behind his back and opened his hand for me to take it.  I slid my fingers into his and waited for him to let me know what to do next.  My heart was pounding out of my chest.  Another second passed and then Lydic turned, his eyes locked on mine as he nodded his head.  We took off to try to outrun whatever it was that was coming for us.  We had only gotten two steps in before I felt Lydic’s grasp on my hand slip away.  I turned around to see what was happening.  I screamed out in horror as Lydic was frozen in place.  He was still on his feet, but his head was drawn back and his eyes rolling into his head as if in extreme pain.

            “Lydic!” I cried out.

The old woman was behind him.  She had that stick, the same one I had tripped over, held up in the air and aimed at Lydic’s head.  There were bright colors, green and yellow, pouring out from the end of the stick and going directly into his skull.  The woman’s expression was one of determination.  Her eyes were closed and her lips pressed together as she mumbled something I couldn’t understand.

What are you going to do?  Panic seized me.  Lydic was supposed to help me, not the other way around.  I didn’t know what to do.  I had to stop this, but how?

The high-pitched whistling grew louder and more intense.  It was starting to hurt my ears.  My gut told me that if I didn’t make a move now, it was going to be too late.

I took a step toward the stick and reached out and grabbed it with my hand.  I used all the strength I had to yank it from the grasp of the old woman.  Lydic fell to his knees.  The woman glared at me, a low growl escaping from her throat.  She lunged toward me.  Without having time to think, I instinctively swung the large stick at her, using it as a bat and she was the ball.  It collided with her head making a grotesque sound.  She collapsed to the ground.  Lydic looked up at me.  I was breathing hard, trying to understand what had just happened.

“What do we do?” I asked.  The whistling noise was almost to us, but I still couldn’t see anything.

Lydic glanced over his shoulder at the woman.  “Run!”

Ever since Mackenzie Duncan watched her skin knit together after being ripped apart by a blood thirsty Werewolf, her life has been anything but normal. After being part of a pack with more secrets than the FBI, Mackenzie left and tried not to look back.

Her old pack leader Margaret, a Royal wolf hungry to regain the throne and rule over all the world's Werewolves, made that impossible. Figuring out who to trust was full of heart break, but moving forward left her with a clear path ahead.

After Mackenzie found out that she, too, is part of the Royal blood line and that she had inadvertently endangered every pack she came into contact with, she feels that it is her duty to help stop Margaret at all costs before any more blood was shed or another life was lost.

Despite traveling the world with Liam, the man she loves, her life is in danger at every turn in her hunt for other Werewolves willing to stand against Margaret. Who better to fight then the blood line that shunned the role of power centuries ago?

Bloody battles surround her at every turn and when Mackenzie thinks all is lost, she has to find a way to embrace her past and accept her future.

Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world.

During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life's stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family.

As a young adult and new adult author, Adrianne James has plans to bring stories of growing characters, a little romance, and perhaps a little magic and mythology down the line for her readers to enjoy.

Excerpt:

“Please. Tell me what you are thinking,” he eagerly asked her, still holding her hand as they sat in opposite directions on the bench.

“I, uh, um…it’s just. This isn’t normal for my world. I’m just surprised, I guess,” she stammered trying to collect her thoughts.

“Are there many of you? Well, I guess yes if it is anyone with royal blood. Anyone? That wolf the first night I came here, it was you? Wait, what about the other one? Who was that?”

Her look was intense while she searched for answers in his face. Lucius tried to appear calm. “Let me explain. I often go on hunting trips in the woods. I bring few supplies for when I shift I carry nothing.”

“You hunt as a wolf?”

“Yes. I was on one such hunting trip when I found you; when I heard the other wolf attacking you.”

“Is he royalty? Do you know him?”

“The answer is no on both counts. That wolf was what we call a half-gift. There are numerous lords of various decent from the royal line. You may see who we are in human form from our black hair. You could say that hair color is a sign of status. On occasion a lord may have an, indiscretion, with a commoner. This may result in a half-gift offspring.”

“But what does that have to do with me? Why was he after me?”

“Without education and civility, a person that is given great power may not choose to use it for good. You were a victim of circumstance. A beautiful young woman alone in the midst of nowhere, and your scent made you irresistible to a rogue.”

“What do you mean my scent made me irresistible?”

Lucius wondered if there was a tactful way to explain it to her. He didn’t want her to feel like he was referring to her like a dog in heat. He cleared his throat a bit before beginning,

“It has to do with your womanly cycle. Your scent becomes more…appealing, when you are…”

“When I am what?”

“Your scent is most appealing when you are in a condition to conceive a child. It is an animal instinct to procreate. Increased sense of smell is part of the gift.”

“You can smell that?!”

“He had you cornered. I imagine he intended to shift and overpower you. I was lucky to arrive when I did.”

“He was going to, oh.”

She covered her mouth with her free hand at the new realization of the manner of danger she had been in. Lucius tightened his grip on the hand he held as she gave a little shiver.

The air had become quite chilled as the night deepened. He wanted to be with her, but not at her expense.

“You are safe. The purpose of my absence was to capture the half-gift. He will go on trial soon and make restitution for his crime,” he told her in the most reassuring tone he could muster. “You must be cold out here barefoot. Please allow me to escort you back to your room.”

“I don’t think I could find my way out of here on my own if I wanted to. Can we go back to the balcony first? I left my candle there.”

He smiled offering his arm to her in a gentlemanly manner, “As you wish, Miss Josephine.” When she stood and accepted his offer, Lucius was acutely aware of her icy thin fingers wrapping around his bicep. He wasn’t sure if it was the chill from her fingers or her touch that gave him goose bumps. He had never been half undressed in front of a girl before let alone to have her touching his bare skin. At the thought he tightened his arm to form a bigger muscle and stood up a bit straighter to broaden his shoulders. If old Cassie saw this impropriety she would scold me. For now, if Josephine does not mind, I will enjoy it.

REVIEW : Simple Perfection (Perfection #2) by Abbi Glines

SUMMARY :

Woods had his perfect life mapped out for him. Rise up the ranks of the family business. Marry the rich girl of his parents’ dreams. Pretend that wealth and privilege was all he’d ever wanted. Then a girl named Della breezed into town, a beautifully imperfect stranger who captured his heart and opened his eyes to a new kind of future. Woods is ready and willing to sacrifice everything for her when the sudden death of his father leaves him with his mother to care for and a business to manage.

Della is determined to be strong for Woods, even as she’s quietly falling to pieces. No matter how far from home she’s run, the ghosts of her past have never stopped haunting her. Struggling to hide her true feelings from Woods, Della fears she can’t be his rock without dragging him down into the darkness with her. But is she strong enough to let go of the last thing holding her together?

REVIEW :

"Right now he needs you, I get it. But, Della, you started this journey to live life. Don’t forget that. You left one prison; don’t find yourself in another."

I’m going to keep this review short and “meh” because every road I can think to take leads to spoiler town and that’s not what I’m trying to accomplish. I love the fact that Della took some time to find her inner strength. I wish she would’ve gone about it in a different manner, but the finished product was a stronger, more rational and mature Della. No complaints there. What the hell happened to Woods, though? I know he went through a whole lot during the course of the story, but he didn’t seem to handle any of the situations in typical “Woods” form. The bitches that ended up creating havoc in both he and Della’s lives were never really handled AND he turned into a freakishly clingy version of his former self. That behavior makes sense towards the very end of the story but not before then. Whether his sense of responsibility was so great he turned into a clinger, I can’t say. All I know is I didn’t enjoy reading it.

This book took a turn for the worse for me at the 85% mark. It just seemed like drama for the sake of drama and I really think Ms. Glines missed the mark. To me it felt like needlessly sacrificing a part of the legacy that is this series simply to set up another book and it was done in a matter of a page or two. I didn’t mind the last 10% of this book being used to set up the next two books of the series, but this added little bit of heartache at the end didn’t work for me.

***Book Blitz*** Devour By Jill Cooper

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Life in Gloucester Massachusetts will never be the same.

Raging storms, fierce winds, shadows shifting in the breeze. Storms are nothing new for the fishing hamlet.

But darkness has come to claim the hearts and minds of those that stand in it too long. When that happens, love will be ripped from man leaving only violence, despair, and gnashing teeth.

Except for two.

Roberta is a single mom, a waitress struggling to get through life after a rocky start tainted by murder and loss. Her heart yearns for Gabriel; a deputy living in the shadow of the chief. He's a battle weary soldier ready to settle down.

When the storm comes, when the murders start, it will be up to them to stop it before darkness isn't just an empty void.

Excerpt:

The door chimed and I glanced over, fluffing my red curls slightly. He was right on time.

With Brooding wide shoulders, Deputy Gabriel Manning could fill out a uniform in all the right places. His hair was sandy brown, and soft like an ocean’s wave.  My heart skipped a beat in the way it had when I knew Gabriel growing up, but what girl hadn’t had a crush on him?

“Deputy.” I said with a smile as I poured a cup of coffee into a Styrofoam cup and attached a lid. “Danish?”

“Not today. I have to watch the calories.” Gabriel smiled and patted his perfectly flat stomach. Perfectly perfect was more like it. On more than one occasion I had imagined him without his shirt. Always made me feel guilty, I wasn’t ready to move on, and he just wasn’t my friend.

He was Rick’s friend too.

That just made it a whole host of complicated and while I knew Gabriel should have been off-limits, nobody told my heart that.

He took the coffee and his fingers swept across mine gently, but I knew he did it on purpose. It made me blush, but my heart sprouted wings.  He had been working up to something for a while, but I never said anything. Always pretended I didn’t notice. My heart shouted at me through a bullhorn to say or do anything, but the guilt stopped me.

Guilt like I was betraying my dead soon-to-be-husband with his closest friend. Meanwhile Rick was somewhere at the bottom of Gloucester Harbor, still never found.

ARC REVIEW : Done With Men by Shuchi Singh Kalra

She wakes up in the hospital to the tender ministrations of Dr.Vivian D'Mello--young, suave and handsome as hell. Will Kay stick to her guns or will she fall for his ridiculously sexy charms? And what's up with the mixed signals he's giving out?

REVIEW :

Done With Men was a fun read. I having been to Goa for the Sunburn fest only last Dec I especially enjoyed reading about it as I could relate.
The main story could have been a bit more better if certain sections of the story would have been extended and made the book longer. A bit more drama was needed. And lots of romance never hurts. Other than that the chemistry between the main couple could be improved and the best friends were great.
Other than that it was fun one time read.

Review : Abandon (Abandon Trilogy #1) by Meg Cabot

Summary :

New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

Review :

So this is supposed to be a retelling of the Greek mythology story of Hades and Persephone. I honestly don't know much about their story aside from what I read in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. But since I'm not well versed on this mythological story, I am unable to make accurate comparisons between the two. And I think being unfamiliar with this story actually helped this book for me because I found Abandon's plot refreshing and intriguing as I haven't read any books using this same plot.

The main protagonist of Abandon is Pierce Oliviera, a 17-year old girl who recently had a near death experience and in the process met John, who happened to be the ruler of the Underworld, while waiting for the boat that was to take her to heaven. Somehow John was able to trick Pierce to go with him to the Underworld but when Pierce realizes her mistake, she smartly escapes John and the Underworld, as well as escape death and returns back to life after being injected adrenaline straight to her heart. When Pierce wakes up from all of these, she's unsure whether John was for real or if she just dreamed it all until she realizes that the necklace John gave her while she was in the Underworld with him was still hanging around her necklace.

The necklace. According to John, the necklace is supposed to protect Pierce from evil. Apparently, this necklace was rich in history and was once owned by Marie Antoinette but was considered t o have brought bad luck to the bearer or wearer of it. As for Pierce, it appeared to have brought trouble for her as well but John always manages to find her and save her from the danger that awaited her.

Pierce. She's an only child and used to an affluent lifestyle but is unpretentious and very caring of other people's well-being. She almost died trying to save an injured bird and caught John's attention when she came to him worried that his horse almost trampled him. Pierce appears to find and attract trouble and we later find out why this is. Aside from being pretty and having ADD, Pierce doesn’t really stand out as a protagonist for me. She doesn’t seem to have the drive or knows what she wants to do with her life. I don’t know if this is because of her near death experience but I would think coming out of such a monumental experience would drive you to want to live your life and not just cruise along. Her character is much too two-dimensional.

John. John’s character is more intriguing and is more colorful. His story makes Abandon. There’s more to him that meets the eye. Pierce first meets John as a teenager when she was seven years old at the Isla Huesos Cemetery during her grandfather's funeral. John Hayden is now the ruler of the Underworld and is smitten with Pierce after meeting her for the second time, entranced by Pierce's pretty eyes and her big heart. John is described as this very tall, dark, and handsome teenager, dressed in black and leaves a trail of scarlet blossoms in his wake. There's something dark and scary about him but at the same time sexy and fascinating. Though he doesn't quite know how to express his feelings to Pierce, his constant presence when she's in danger is endearing to her and Pierce can't seem to stay away from him either even after she finds out that he's from the Underworld. And being with him could mean her staying in the Underworld for eternity. Yes, she’s afraid of him for obvious reasons but she still can’t deny him.

Despite the back and forth of present and past experiences of Pierce to build the story, I found this book a quick read. This book pretty much serves as the building block to the Abandon trilogy. I thought it was very clever of Cabot to tie up the history of Key West to John’s story and make Key West as the entrance to the Underworld. I didn’t go as far to research the truth about the skeletons of the dead surfacing on the ground after hurricanes and the reason why the dead in Key West are placed in crypts but my interest was definitely peaked. And what of the Coffin Night? How true was this as well? Cabot has certainly infused some interesting tidbits and plots into the story. It’s enough to keep me reading and waiting for the sequel to know more about John’s life and how he became the ruler of the Underworld, how to defeat the Furies, and what becomes of their pairing.

AUTHOR BIO:

Words have always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to read them, write them and learn them in other languages. Last year, I’ve decided to take that passion and turn it into a book, the result was Exception, my very first novel due this October.

Whenever I’m not sitting behind my computer, I’m either enjoying the company of my dear hubby, Alex, and our four four-legged babies or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand written letters, love of any kind and good stories.

REVIEW : Fallen Too Far (Rosemary Beach #1) by Abbi Glines

SUMMARY :

To want what you’re not supposed to have…

She is only nineteen.

She is his new stepfather’s daughter.

She is still naïve and innocent due to spending the last three years taking care of her sick mother.

But for twenty-four year old Rush Finlay, she is the only thing that has ever been off limits. His famous father’s guilt money, his mother’s desperation to win his love, and his charm are the three reasons he has never been told no.

Blaire Wynn left her small farmhouse in Alabama, after her mother passed away, to move in with her father and his new wife in their sprawling beach house along the Florida gulf coast. She isn’t prepared for the lifestyle change and she knows she’ll never fit into this world. Then there is her sexy stepbrother who her father leaves her with for the summer while he runs off to Paris with his wife. Rush is as spoiled as he is gorgeous. He is also getting under her skin. She knows he is anything but good for her and that he’ll never be faithful to anyone. He is jaded and has secrets Blaire knows she may never uncover but even knowing all of that…

Blaire just may have fallen too far.

REVIEW :

The first half of the book I would give around 3.5 but the second half around 4.5- So, I'm going to settle at 4 Stars

The sweet part about this story is that you have Blaire who has gone through some horrible things in the past five years: her twin sister dies, her father left and then she alone takes care of her mother who dies of cancer...she can definitely take care of herself! But she wants someone to want to be with her...to share her life and be there for her. Then you have Mr. Bad Boy, son of a rock god, pierced, tattooed, money bags and a sex machine who is totally taken by surprise by Blaire. He fights it and fights it hard but when he finally accepts it, he just can't get enough!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book several different time. I didn't expect Blaire to be so mature and capable and I didn't expect her love interest to be Rush. I also didn't expect to like him since he was such a jerk in the beginning. There's also a big secret in the story...it's not too hard to figure out but ultimately becomes Rush's undoing.

I thought Blaire was doing really well considering what all she had been through. I about died when she had to sleep in the room under the stairs...it certainly gave off a Cinderella vibe! She really has to deal with the separate social classes...not just where she is staying but at work as well. Luckily, she handles herself (and her gun) quite well.

Rush was definitely unexpected considering he was such a jerk at the beginning and was having sex out in the open where Blaire would see him! I love how he reacted to Blaire but I didn't like the secret he was keeping. It was funny to see him trying to fight his feelings and losing!

The ending is a bit of a clincher and does leave you hanging. My heart went out to Blaire especially at the cemetery and then OMG at the hotel. I don't know who I felt worse for....her or Rush.

About This Book

Fall to You is the second book in the Here and Now series. It is not a stand-alone and is intended to be read following Lost in Me. Hanna's story concludes in book three, All for This.

Torn between two men…

When I woke up after the accident, I couldn't remember anything from the last year-including my relationship with Max Hallowell or anything about Nate Crane. Now my memories are returning, but instead of answering my questions, they're leaving me with more.

The man who broke my heart and wants to be my future…

Max is all I ever wanted, and now he wants to marry me. He'll do everything he can to fill my life with love, family, and security. I need those things now more than ever. But can I trust him?

The man who stole my heart and wants to let me go…

Nate never made me promises, and I never asked him to. I'd been on the rebound, looking for a distraction, and he made me feel beautiful and wanted when I needed to feel those things most. He says he has to let me go, but what if I can't let go of him?

With every revelation and every passing day, I feel more like Alice down the rabbit hole. I'm falling. Who will catch me?

Three Months Before Hanna's Accident

Nate

I haven't slept all night with a woman next to me since before my son was born, yet here I am, holding her like I'm some closet romantic who doesn't plan to send her on her way in a couple of hours. I loved every fucking minute of sleeping with her in my arms. I love how she reached for me in her sleep, how she rubbed her ass against my cock as if trying to wiggle a puzzle piece into place. And maybe a puzzle is the right analogy, because her body fits so damn perfectly against mine that I feel like something's missing when she rolls away.
She's on her back now, a hand reaching out, fingers resting on my bicep as if she's afraid I might escape. The women I take to my bed tend to react that way, but I know it has little to do with my mad bedroom skills. For them, it's about status, a notch in their bedpost of celebrities. What's it about for Hanna?
The air conditioner cycles on, parting the curtains and bathing her in morning light that reminds me I should be urging her out of my bed. Only I don't want her to go anywhere. I'm too enthralled by the dark smudge of her lashes against her cheeks and the soft parting of her full lips. She has these faint freckles across the bridge of her nose, another detail in this study in contrasts-the sweet, insecure virgin who doesn't understand her own appeal and the wanton goddess who sucked me so hard and pulled my dick so deep she's no doubt ruined me for all other blowjobs. And the way she responds when I touch her…
Hanna's a virgin, but she was made for sex. Damn, how I envy the man who will get to introduce her to that pleasure. Will it be the ex? Max?
Something flames in my gut at the thought, but I ignore the flare of jealousy. She still loves him. I'm nothing more than the rebound guy, and I should be glad for that because I can't offer her more than this.
"Mmm," she moans, her eyes fluttering open and closed again as if she can't quite convince them to greet the day. "What are you looking at?"
"You."
She pats her hair before tugging the sheet up to cover her bare breasts. "Not much to look at before coffee. I'm probably a mess."
"A beautiful mess," I growl, tugging the sheet back down. "Don't interrupt me. I was trying to play connect-the-dots with your freckles."
She raises a brow but doesn't try to re-cover herself. "How's that work?"
"Well, they obviously start here," I murmur, touching the bridge of her nose. "Then they pick up again here…" I drag my finger down her nose, over her soft lips, and to her collarbone, where a few more freckles are sprinkled.
"Not much of a treasure hunt."
"Oh, you see, the amateur might think that's the end of the trail, but I am an expert at connect-the-dots, and I don't give up so easily."
"Oh. Good. I was worried."
I shake my head and press a quick kiss to her lips. "I won't let you down. But are you ready for the next part?"
"I don't know? Is it hangman? I'm not sure I want you playing hangman with my freckles." Her smile damn near bowls me over.
"Still connecting the dots, but you see, it's about intuition when the going gets tough like this, and for my intuition to work at its best, I need to stop searching with my fingers and take over with my tongue."
She giggles. "Oh really?"
I climb on top of her, resting on my elbows, and she instinctively draws up her knees so my torso rests between her thighs. My cock aches, demanding that I slide up her body and get closer. Fuck. It wants more than to be close. It wants inside her. Tight and hot and deep. But I ignore it and lower my mouth to the freckles on her collarbone.
The taste of her skin on my tongue makes me hungry for more. I want to lick her clit again, to slide my tongue inside her until she loses control and rocks her hips in that sweet rhythm of fucking.
Instead, I trail my tongue down between her breasts and to the lone freckle beneath her sternum. "Found it," I murmur before gently nipping her skin.
She arches toward my mouth. "Your tongue has a rather impressive intuition."

"Oh, and it's not even done yet."

About the Author

Once a college English professor, I now write full time. I live in rural Indiana, where, when I'm not writing, I get to hang out with my husband and two kids--a six-year-old boy and a two-year-old hellion, er, girl. Not surprisingly, reading and writing remain my favorite activities, though both come in bits and pieces these days, not the big hunks of time I enjoyed before I had children. When I'm feeling virtuous, I like to go running (I use that word liberally. I'm really, really slow) or do yoga. Don't worry, I'm always careful to balance out such activities with a hearty serving of ice cream or a chocolate martini.
