***Book Review*** After (After #1) by Anna Todd

SUMMARY

Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way.

But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.

But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.

He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn't the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.

Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her?

Unless…could this be love?

Now newly revised and expanded, Anna Todd’s After fanfiction racked up 1 billion reads online and captivated readers across the globe. Experience the Internet’s most talked-about book for yourself!

There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything AFTER ... Life will never be the same.

REVIEW

5/5 Stars

“Just because he can't love you the way you want him to doesn't mean he does't love you with everything he has."

OMG. Total book hangover! It's been a while since I've been hearing about this book and even watched the movie but now that I've read it, I completely get what the hype is about.

Tessa (Love the name) is a good girl starting college when she meets the rude and enigmatic Hardin on her first day. Everything in her tells her that he's trouble, from the tattoos to the piercings. Despite all the warnings from friends and family, she is unable to resist him and stay away from the bad boy. Not even her boyfriend Noah is able to stop her.

“I am a moth to his flame, and he never hesitates to burn me.”

Hardin is such a complex character. I loved him! He is a mystery that Tessa tries to solve but gets only glimpses of the real him. Hardin has his own demons haunting him at night in slumber. The new girl wasn't supposed to be more than an amusement. He hadn't planned on falling for her. But he did. Hard.

“Whatever the hell our souls are made of hers and mine are the same.”

I devoured this book like a girl on a mission. Tessa is a strong female who know when to not give in and the battle she fights with her feelings after Hardin hurts her is truly admirable. Hardin on the other hand is everything I look for in a guy. Tough exterior but a gentle side for the girl he loves. The way he cares about Tessa like she's the center of his universe had me weeping like a child. Add on the English accent just gets you swooning! <3

“Do you remember when you asked me who I loved the most in the world? It's you."

The chemistry between Tessa and Hardin is steamy and heart pounding and the love they have for each other has my toes curling. The way he wants to be good just for her is downright heart warming. Now I'll be sneaking away quietly to grab the sequel.

***Book Review*** Show Stealer (Show Stopper #2) by Hayley Barker

Hoshiko and Ben have been on the run since they burned Silvio Sabatini's
circus down to the ground at the explosive finale of SHOW
STOPPER. But Ben's mother will stop at nothing to track him down
and get her revenge: backing him into a corner where he is forced
to sacrifice himself to save Hoshiko.

The deadliest show on earth
has been resurrected and if Ben thought he'd seen into its dark
corners as an outsider, the true extent of the horrors that lurk
beneath the Big Top are about to be revealed as he becomes the
circus' new star attraction...

REVIEW

4/5 Stars

A circus on fire. Fugitives on the run. The deadliest show on earth is ready for an encore

This book has literally kept me at the edge of my seat. Like seriously, I almost fell from the couch due to anticipation.

The story continues a year after Show Stopper ended and showcases Hoshi and Ben's journey ahead. Hoshi being the most wanted criminal, evading the cops is no easy task and after Ben sacrifices his freedom for her, he totally won me over. That kind of love, oh it gave me goosebumps. Ben is totally swoon worthy.

Like like the previous book, this one deals with somber reality of what goes on in the Cirque that Hoshi left behind. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse in the hell that she lives, the devil himself reappears before her eyes.

My only complain would be the ending. I would have liked it more if it was more descriptive as the rest of the book. The epilogue about Silvio teases us about a possibility of another book. I for one would absolutely love to read more about Hoshi and Ben.

Show Stealer is one hell of a book! I simply couldn't put it down. This book is full of drama, tension, love and most of all it's completely action packed.

***Book Review*** War of the Cards (Queen of Hearts Saga #3) by Colleen Oakes

SUMMARY

The final book in the twisted YA trilogy re-imagining of the origin story of the Queen of Hearts.

Dinah has lost everyone she ever loved. Her brother was brutally murdered. The wicked man she believed was her father betrayed her. Her loyal subjects have been devastated by war. And the boy she gave her heart to broke it completely.

Now a dark queen has risen out of the ashes of her former life. Fury is blooming inside Dinah, poisoning her soul and twisting her mind. All she has left is Wonderland and her crown, and her obsession to fight for both. But the war rages on, and Dinah could inherit a bloodstained throne. Can a leader filled with love and rage ever be the ruler her kingdom needs? Or will her all-consuming wrath bring Wonderland to its knees?

This is not a story of happily ever after.

This is the story of the Queen of Hearts.

REVIEW

4/5 Stars

h. My. Gosh. I need to take a breath before I start writing this.

War of the Cards is the finale to Queen of Hearts Trilogy. All I really want to say about this book is that it deserves to be read. By the time I was done I had so many emotions swirling in me that I had to take a minute or few before I started functioning again.

As I started this book, I had a fair idea of how it would progress, but then midway through the story when I thought what could possibly happen now, the author threw in a twist that left me shocked. And things happened so quickly in a rush of overwhelmed emotions that my heart actually broke for Wardley. I don't know what I wanted for him but it definitely wasn't this, or maybe it was but under better circumstances. Dinah has grown and matured beautifully throughout the books and by the end, I really liked her character and the person she had become. I really REALLY liked what the author did somewhere at the end when Wardley says to Dinah about the traveller about her deed. *wink wink*

Villains got what they deserved and our MC's got their HEA. Kind of. You'll see what I mean if you read it.

All in all, this action packed trilogy with dark twists and impressive show of emotions is definitely worth a read.

***Release Blast*** What She Concealed (Concealed #1) By Jannat Bhat

Introducing the first book in the Concealed Series - What She Concealed by Jannat Bhat.
Have a look below!

Title: What She Concealed (Concealed #1)
Author: Jannat Bhat
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: July 10, 2020

Summary :

***This book has been revised as a high school romance.***

“I missed you.” She said softly, eyes heavy with sleep. “Don’t let go, Julian.”

“Give me a reason, Elly. One reason for holding on.” He said.

She took hold of Julian’s arm and drew him closer. “Us.” She whispered.

Eliana Bennett was about to start her first day as a senior at Imperial High. But the beginning of her day wasn’t good because an arrogant grey-eyed guy from the wrong side of town, provoked her and she couldn’t resist challenging him instead.

Julian Rivera hadn’t expected to meet this feisty dark-haired girl in the middle of his game before he started his year at Imperial High. But when he found her to be a fellow classmate, he just had to prank her.

Julian and Eliana began their acquaintance with screaming matches and mischief which changed after he truly fell in love with her. But Eliana had no plans of pursuing a relationship. She had to work hard and focus on her grades to make her father, Jonathan Bennett, the headmaster of Imperial High, proud. Julian’s appearance in her life complicated things.

After an argument between them topped all others, Julian went AWOL and back to the life he had long left behind. Eliana had a tough time getting to terms with her feelings but once she had, she wouldn’t let Julian go without a fight.

The question remained, will her love bring Julian back or was it too late? The demons he had run away from, had they coveted him as their own?

Excerpt:

“Truth or Dare? And stop with the truths. It’s getting dull already.” Julian said.

“If you say so, bro.” Carter said, wanting the game to be more fun. “Dare.”

“That’s what I’m talking about,” Julian said excitedly. “I want you to go and get that’s girl’s number.” He said pointing behind Carter at a blonde woman with pretty hair standing in the distance. It was the same receptionist who had been on duty that morning. Eliana rolled her eyes.

“What! Are you serious?” Carter was surprised that Julian would ask that. “Wouldn’t it be easier for you to do it? I mean just look at you, she’d give you her address in a blink.”

“Address and much more.” Eliana muttered.

“Easy for me, not you. What did you expect? This game isn’t supposed to be easy. Haven’t you seen the movie?” Julian asked.

“He’s right about that.” Naomi supported. “A dare is something you wouldn’t do willingly.”

“True that,” Mia said.

“Alright, I’ll do it.” Carter stood up and made his way to the woman even though he was freaked that she might stake him alive. But he worried in vain and since he pointed towards Julian, she quickly scribbled her number on a paper napkin and handed it to Carter giving Julian a naughty wink. Carter came back to his friends with the number in his hands.

“There. Phew. I did it.” He gave it to Julian, who took it graciously and pocketed it. Eliana looked at Julian with distaste. Such a player, she huffed silently.

“You did. I’m proud of you.” Mia encouraged Carter giving him a high-five.

Carter spun the bottle next and it stopped at Eliana and Julian. “Well, well, Bennett. Truth or Dare?” He asked with a gleam in his eyes. Eliana was about to pick truth but she didn’t want to be predictable and knew that is exactly what Julian was expecting. Jax came back and sat down next to her without a word. None of the others asked him anything, all intent on Eliana’s answer.

“Dare.” She chose. Julian was amused at the way he could provoke her with just a look.

“You sure you don’t want to choose the truth? Because you know, you seem the type.” He commented as she narrowed her eyes.

“You know nothing of my type. Dare.” She repeated, not wanting to give him the satisfaction to goad her.

“In that case, I want you to go up to the third floor to room 325 and spend at least twenty minutes in there,” Julian said.

“Julian, I don’t think it’s safe to go in there,” Mia said looking concerned. “Why not?” Naomi questioned.

“Haven’t you heard?” Carter worried. “It’s haunted.”

“Haunted how?” Jax asked.

“It is believed to be the most haunted room in the hotel, and many guests have reported seeing the figure of a woman standing outside the door. People have witnessed faucets turning on by themselves, lights flickering, and the sound of a baby crying being heard. Employees and guests of the hotel believe Bridget Bishop is source of these paranormal encounters you know, the first victim of the witch trials.” Eliana looked spooked already, as did the other two girls.

Jax looked at his sister. “You don’t have to do this El. You can refuse.”

“Yeah El, you don’t have to do this,” Julian smirked at her.

“But how would she go in without a key card?” Naomi asked.

“About that.” Julian stood up and went to the receptionist whose number rested in his jeans pocket. Eliana saw him flash a million dollar smile at her and she could literally see the result it had on the woman who struggled with breathing. They both left the lounge together.
“Did he just walked out on us to get hooked up in the middle of a game?” Mia asked.

“I’m not sure.” Carter said. “Let’s wait and see.” They didn’t wait long because Julian came back minutes later looking smug. “Bro, what was that?”

“That.” Julian said producing a key card to room 325. “Was me getting this.”

“Wow.” Naomi looked impressed. “Was she even allowed to do this?”

“Don’t know, don’t care.” Julian shrugged.

“You’re the man, bro.” Carter said, slapping Julian on the back.

Eliana stood up. “Alright then, I’m doing this and I don’t scare easy anymore, Jax.” She snatched the card from Julian started to walk out towards the elevator. “If I don’t come back in twenty minutes, maybe get help.” She muttered on the way. “Wait.” Julian called out. Eliana turned at his voice. “No using the elevators.” She cursed him under her breath.

She was on the second floor stairwell when Eliana starting to freak out. She heard all kinds of sounds, even the hotel seemed to be conspiring against her. She swept her bangs aside and tried to calm down. The lamps caused shadows and all she could see was scary monsters that hid under her bed. She jerked around when she heard sudden taps or bangs coming from the walls. She prayed to God to spare her from dying a gruesome ghostly death and cursed herself for leaving her phone behind at the table. This is all Julian’s fault, she started to take slow steps forward once she reached the third floor. She heard light footsteps coming towards her, heart racing she closed her eyes tight so didn’t see the female ghost Cater had mentioned. The steps came closer and then stopped. She let out a sigh of relief when she bumped into something and screamed her heart out. So did the person she had bumped into. Julian.

“Julian! What are you doing here?” She said when she could breathe again.

“What do think? I was looking for you.” He said.

“Why did you scream then?” She asked. Is he as scared as I am? She wondered. He didn’t seem the kind to be scared of anything.

“Have you seen your face? You look even scarier in this light. I’m going to have nightmares for weeks. This is what I get for rescuing you.” He shook his head as if it was the worst decision he had made.

“Why did you come? I didn’t ask you to.” She defended herself.

“Yeah well, I didn’t want to hear Jax and the others continue to blame me if you ended up dead out here. So you know, it was self-defense.” He shrugged casually. “I don’t want you to haunt my ass in case I stay here in the future.”

“Such a gallant knight you are.” She said sarcastically and opened the stairwell door ignoring him.

“I missed you.” She said softly, eyes heavy with sleep. “Don’t let go, Julian.”

The question remained, will her love bring Julian back or was it too late? The demons he had run away from, had they coveted him as their own?

Excerpt:

“Julian, please. I understand that you’re mad at me and I’m sorry about blowing things out of proportion the other day. But hurting yourself is not the answer.” She said looking at his split lip.

Julian laughed bitterly. “You need to stop. This absurd pretense of caring about me, this needs to stop, Eliana.”

“Say what you want if it makes you feel better, but you’re coming with me,” She said. “Please don’t ruin your life over me. If you don’t come back you’re going to be suspended!” She tried to make him understand the enormity of his decision.

“Life?” He scoffed and shook his head. “I don’t care.” He said. Eliana was scared because she had never seen Julian as lifeless as he seemed now. His spark was missing and she was responsible for it.

“Julian, I’m not worth ruining yourself over. No one is.”

“You? You think I did all this because of you?” He gave her a humorless smile. “Whatever happened between us is in the past. Nothing’s going to change now.”

“Why are you fighting everyone over this?” She asked. “Why won’t you just come back?”

“Because me staying away, it’s the right thing to do.” He sighed.

“Right thing for whom?”

“For everyone.”

“Since when have you done the right thing?”

“Ever since . . . you.” He said quietly lowering his eyes.

“Julian, listen to me.”

“I’m done talking.” He said and turned back to her at the door. “Catch a flight back Eliana and don’t come back. There is nothing for you here.”

I have you here, Eliana thought and followed him out the back door and saw Creesto surrounded by his fans. His eyes fall on her and he leaves the groupies and comes to her with a few guys following his lead. She looked at Julian who was busy getting on his motorbike, avoiding her. Eliana took a step towards him but Creesto intercepted her.

“Hello there.” He drawled with his thumb sliding against his lower lip in a crude way. “What’s your name dearie?” Eliana felt disgusted by the way Creesto and his followers were staring at her.

“My name is none of your business.” She said and tried to leave but they stopped her again.

“It’s no wonder Rivera was distracted. If I had a girl like you, I’d get beaten up all day every day just to have a taste.” Eliana looked for Julian but she couldn’t see him. She stiffened when Creesto touched a strand of her hair and wrapped it around his finger. “She’s such a beauty. If only she’d give us a moment.” The guy nearest to her came closer. “I promise, I won’t disappoint.” Eliana was getting nowhere with these guys and she was running out of time to convince Julian. “Don’t look for him. He’s not the man for you. He’s not right in the head leaving you all alone out here.” Creesto said. “But you have nothing to worry about. You have me now.” He came forward and the rest moved back letting their leader make the first move. Creesto dropped her hair and took her arm trying to pull her forward but when Eliana’s scream cut the air, Julian was the first to come to her rescue. Her grey eyed guy had his hand on Creesto’s arm pulling it away from her with brutal force almost crushing it.

“I warned you in the cage, Perez. Don’t mess with me.” Julian said moving in front of Eliana.

“Back off, Rivera. You don’t need this girl, so leave her to us.” Creesto said, tilting his head at Eliana.

“She’s my girl,” Julian growled dangerously. He didn’t wait for the other man to reply and hit him square in the face, breaking his nose with a sickening crush. The other men gathered around to attack Julian, but he was much faster and quicker than them. Avoiding their punches swiftly and hit them where it hurt. Looking at the scene, Eliana realized that one could only get to Julian if he wanted them to. But if his focus was zeroed in, nobody stood a chance getting a hit on him.

Creesto came forward again with a snarl, nose bleeding and Julian grabbed the back of his head, pulling his hair he smacked Creesto’s head on the hood of the jeep that stood nearby. Creesto fell to the ground with that, moaning as rest of the men backed, not wanting to fight Julian one on one. Julian bent down on his heels so he was closer to Creesto.

“Mine, Perez. If I see you or your men anywhere near her, I will not stop, I will end you.” He threatened the fallen man. “They don’t call me unstoppable for nothing.”

The sky split open and rain started pouring on them in heavy showers. Julian removed his jacket and held it out to Eliana. “It’s not safe around these parts. Go to the airport and catch a flight back immediately.”

“I’ll go if you’ll go,” Eliana said draping the jacket over herself.

“How many times do you need me to repeat myself? I’m not going.” Julian said.

“Then neither am I.”

Julian cursed at her stubbornness and went back to the bike massaging his knuckles, he turned on the engine. He drove up near Eliana and waited quietly, accelerating on the spot. Eliana wasn’t sure what else to do, so she climbed onto it and wrapped her hands around him. He stiffened at her touch and closed his eyes losing himself for a few moments at the feel of her. None too soon he came back to his senses and drove into the rain.
