***Book Review*** After (After #1) by Anna Todd

SUMMARY

Tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. She’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way.

But she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into Hardin. With his tousled brown hair, cocky British accent, tattoos, and lip ring, Hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to.

But he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. For all his attitude, Tessa should hate Hardin. And she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. Something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before.

He’ll call her beautiful, then insist he isn't the one for her and disappear again and again. Despite the reckless way he treats her, Tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real Hardin beneath all his lies. He pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper.

Tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. So why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and Hardin’s prejudice about nice girls like her?

Unless…could this be love?

Now newly revised and expanded, Anna Todd’s After fanfiction racked up 1 billion reads online and captivated readers across the globe. Experience the Internet’s most talked-about book for yourself!

There was the time before Tessa met Hardin, and then there’s everything AFTER ... Life will never be the same.

REVIEW

5/5 Stars

“Just because he can't love you the way you want him to doesn't mean he does't love you with everything he has."

OMG. Total book hangover! It's been a while since I've been hearing about this book and even watched the movie but now that I've read it, I completely get what the hype is about.

Tessa (Love the name) is a good girl starting college when she meets the rude and enigmatic Hardin on her first day. Everything in her tells her that he's trouble, from the tattoos to the piercings. Despite all the warnings from friends and family, she is unable to resist him and stay away from the bad boy. Not even her boyfriend Noah is able to stop her.

“I am a moth to his flame, and he never hesitates to burn me.”

Hardin is such a complex character. I loved him! He is a mystery that Tessa tries to solve but gets only glimpses of the real him. Hardin has his own demons haunting him at night in slumber. The new girl wasn't supposed to be more than an amusement. He hadn't planned on falling for her. But he did. Hard.

“Whatever the hell our souls are made of hers and mine are the same.”

I devoured this book like a girl on a mission. Tessa is a strong female who know when to not give in and the battle she fights with her feelings after Hardin hurts her is truly admirable. Hardin on the other hand is everything I look for in a guy. Tough exterior but a gentle side for the girl he loves. The way he cares about Tessa like she's the center of his universe had me weeping like a child. Add on the English accent just gets you swooning! <3

“Do you remember when you asked me who I loved the most in the world? It's you."

The chemistry between Tessa and Hardin is steamy and heart pounding and the love they have for each other has my toes curling. The way he wants to be good just for her is downright heart warming. Now I'll be sneaking away quietly to grab the sequel.

Summary:

“You have no idea. This is going to be one of the fireworks that the world is going to stop and watch.”

I stay rooted to the spot. He leans towards me and whispers in my ears, “It’s been nice knowing you, Violet. Maybe in another life, things will be simple. Where we didn’t have to end this way.”
My eyes dart to his hand on the remote and I see him close his eyes and almost press the button.
“I’m sorry. But I can’t let you do this.” I say and pull the trigger.

When I first saw him, I hadn’t paid much attention.

Sure, my heart skipped a beat every time he smiled at me. His mesmerizing brown eyes held me at their mercy. I could look into their depth for the rest of my life. Our connection was more than a chance encounter. It was fate.

Forever and always.

I wanted that with him. But I should have known better. People like me don’t get happy endings. I was terrified that he would leave me. But instead, I left. I would always be the one to leave.

But I made a terrible mistake. One that would cost us both our lives.

I fell in love with him. And he loved me right back

Review:
mg! I don't know where to even start with this book. I began reading this book a few months ago but due to time constraints I couldn't finish it sooner. But recently I was like, I don't care about anything else this book seems to be really good and deserves more time and not a quick read. So I sat down and finished this book and now I'm left wanting more. I don't think there was even one thing that I didn't like about this book. Everything and I mean everything, be it the story line, the characters the concept of the overall book, feelings and emotions it was all perfect to me.
I can't wait to start with the sequel of this one. Thank you a ton to the author for giving me such an amazing book to read and review. And hats off to you for such brilliant writing.

Lies, deceptions.
A Presidency hangs in the balance.
Then, there is the chemistry.
It's combustible, incendiary, explosive.
She.
Will.
Ruin.
Him.
He might not care.

Excerpt:
He stared at a pair of legs—long and shapely, with dark olive skin that glowed in the low light of the room. They ended in a pair of very strappy stiletto heeled shoes, and toe nails the color of a fine burgundy. Unfortunately, those spectacular legs were currently pressed against a wall while his client—his very married client—mauled the owner of said legs in a swanky hotel suite in southwest D.C.
“You have got to be kidding me,” Derek groaned as he stood in the doorway viewing the clusterfuck that had just exploded all of his plans.
“Unh,” Jason Melville grunted as he stopped ravishing the woman’s neck and raised his eyes to gaze over his shoulder at his very pissed campaign consultant. “Derek,” he gritted out. “This isn’t what it looks like.”
Derek slammed the door and strode across the room to glower at Jason and the woman splayed against the wall.
“What exactly is it then, Jason? Because it looks to me like you’re about to screw a woman who is not your wife hours before we’re supposed to announce your candidacy for president of the fucking United States. Did it ever occur to you that she could blow your entire campaign to hell before it even starts?”
Derek’s gaze drifted from Jason’s rapidly reddening face to the brunette he had pinned, hands above her head against the expensive wallpaper. As Jason released her and she straightened her clothes with a huff, Derek could see that the rest of her was as exquisite as her legs. Classic bone structure covered with smooth as silk, flawless skin. Exotic eyes the color of dark chocolate, tipped up at the outside corners, the lashes long and luxurious. And below all of that, a pair of tits that would tempt any president—well, maybe not the current one, since she seemed to swing toward men.
“I’m a professional escort,” she hissed. “And I’ll have you know that I’m very discreet. I would never discuss a client’s business with anyone, whether he’s the president or a janitor.”
Jesus. A hooker? Could it get any worse?
“Look, sweetheart, I’m sure you’re the picture of discretion, but the presidency is not something to risk over a tumble with an escort.” He squeezed out the last word like he could hardly tolerate saying it, and her cheeks turned pink in response, her mouth tightening and eyes narrowing.
Jason exhaled a big breath and stepped further from the brunette.
The woman pursed her plump lips and nudged Jason out of the way before brushing by Derek heading for the bathroom, her perfectly firm and round ass swaying in the pencil skirt that hugged her like a second skin.
Derek whipped around to glower at his candidate who blatantly adjusted himself in his $1000 Armani dress slacks.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” Derek snarled. “Do you realize what you’ve done?”
“Come on,” Jason muttered. “Like every other presidential candidate for the last fifty years hasn’t done the same damn thing. It’s a high stress job, you have to find some way to relieve that stress.”
Derek walked to the thermostat on the wall and turned on the AC to rid the room of the scent of the hooker’s perfume which was perversely turning him on even in the midst of his anger.
“Well, if this is how you handle your stress, I’m not sure you’re cut out to be president. You’ll recall that behavior like this may be commonplace in D.C., but it also nearly always ends in scandal that ruins careers. Particularly for a young, good-looking candidate with little kids at home. Do I need to mention Gary Hart and John Edwards to you?”
Jason grabbed his jacket off of the bed. Derek heard the water turn on in the bathroom and wondered exactly how much money he’d have to cough up to make this woman go away, and how long it would be until she came around again wanting more.
“London is known for her discretion,” Jason said as he unrolled his shirt sleeves. “No one will ever find out. I swear.”
Derek raised an eyebrow.
“Fine. I’ll stop, okay? Is that what you want to hear? I won’t see her again, and I’ll be a good boy and jack off in the shower instead. God knows Angela’s not going to help me out.”
Derek thought of Jason’s Patrician blonde wife and their two preschool aged children. His stomach churned. Why the fuck did these guys get married if they weren’t going to make the commitment? It wasn’t essential to have a wife in order to be successful in politics these days. He shook off the thoughts and focused on the problem at hand.
“How much?” he asked.
“How much what?” Jason responded, searching for something on the floor next to the bed.
“How much do you normally pay her?”
Jason muttered “Got it!” in triumph and stood to put on a pair of diamond cufflinks. “Oh, London? She’s a grand an hour.” He checked his watch. “And she’s been here about twenty-two minutes.”
Jesus. A grand? The last time he’d gotten laid, Derek had spent fifty bucks on two cocktails, and then taken the pretty young reporter home for a couple of hours before sliding her into a taxi and saying goodnight. Final total? Maybe a hundred dollars. A grand seemed excessive.

Review : Crash (Crash #1) by Nicole Williams

Summary :

Southpointe High is the last place Lucy wanted to wind up her senior year of school. Right up until she stumbles into Jude Ryder, a guy whose name has become its own verb, and synonymous with trouble. He's got a rap sheet that runs longer than a senior thesis, has had his name sighed, shouted, and cursed by more women than Lucy dares to ask, and lives at the local boys home where disturbed seems to be the status quo for the residents. Lucy had a stable at best, quirky at worst, upbringing. She lives for wearing the satin down on her ballet shoes, has her sights set on Juilliard, and has been careful to keep trouble out of her life. Up until now.

Jude's everything she needs to stay away from if she wants to separate her past from her future. Staying away, she's about to find out, is the only thing she's incapable of.

For Lucy Larson and Jude Ryder, love's about to become the thing that tears them apart.

Review :

“You can’t be friends with the person you were meant to spent your life with”

The story hooked me right from the first paragraph - I took an instant liking to it and it just immediately put you right inside the narrator's head and had me flipping pages like crazy!
On the surface, its this classic bad boy meets good girl story but, right from the beginning, you can feel deeper, darker, painful undertones and you just know that when you learn the back stories, its going to be heart-wrenching.
You could just feel the sizzling chemistry/connection that Lucy and Jude had when they first met. I swear I felt like I was meeting him myself - my heart was pounding and just completely melted :)

But seriously, my heart just broke for Jude and his past :( Seeing someone who clearly has such a good heart be haunted by these demons and be made to think so little of himself was heart breaking.

“I’m cancer, Luce. And not the kind that you can kill off with radiation. The kind that kills you in the end.”

He's "a boy with beautiful eyes and an ugly past", a total and complete bad boy with a bit of a temper (especially triggered when people attack or insult his girl) who has led a very rough life, but has a heart of gold and is just totally into his girl! *SWOON* and I loved that he had a deeper side to him - life taught him some hard lesson, perhaps far too soon, but with Lucy's help, he tried so hard to overcome his past. " I did drugs. I got arrested. A lot. I screwed a lot of faceless women.” He paused, sucking in a breath. “And then I met one whose face I couldn’t forget. I fell in love with her. I hurt her because I fell in love with her and was afraid she was going to leave me the way everyone else had."

I'm so excited this turned out to be a trilogy because I'm nowhere near done reading about Jude and Lucy!

Review : Until You (Fall Away #1.5) by Penelope Douglas

Summary :

***This novel contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or so numb that you actually felt high? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between.

Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don't care about anything or anyone.

Except Tatum.

I love her so much that I hate her. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn't trust her or anyone else.

So I hurt her. I pushed her away.

But I still need her. The sight of her centers me, and I can pool all of my anger into her. Engaging her, challenging her, bullying her...they are my food, my air, and the last part of me that feels anything human.

But she left. She went to France for a year, and came back a different girl.

Now, when I push, she pushes back.

Review :

“Girlfriend isn’t enough to describe you, Tate. That term is disposable. You’re not my girlfriend, my girl, or my woman. You’re. Just. Mine,” I bit out every syllable, so she would fucking understand. “And I’m yours,” I added, a little calmer.”

The retelling of a story from the guys point of view is becoming very popular these days. The results can be hit or miss. This one, for me, was a HUGE hit.

I was totally wrapped up in Tate and Jared's story in Bully. I can't say I ever forgave him for his behavior, but I decided if Tate could, then I just has to let it go.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel, living in his head. It was a darker place then I even imagined. I still don't forgive him totally for his actions, but I DO believe he loves Tate completely.

I truly loved this book from beginning to end. Despite the fact that I already knew the outcome, most of it felt fresh and new. I felt like an essential part of the story was finally being told. It was, in my opinion, the best "retelling from his POV " book I've read so far.

Huge props to the author for another great book.

Review : With All My Soul (Soul Screamers #7) by Rachel Vincent

Summary :

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...

After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.

But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has...

Review :

"Do you trust me, Tod?"
"With everything I have and everything I am. With all my soul."

Why do such amazing series have to end? Why can't they just go and on forever?
I feel so lost now that there will be no more Kaylee, Tod,Nash,Sabine and all others. Over the past books I've come to care so much about these characters that it just doesn't feel right for the story to end.
Over the past six books we’ve seen Kaylee go through it all: she’s loved, she’s lost, she’s fought, she’s even died. Avari has stopped at nothing in his obsessive pursuit of her soul, throwing the entire strength of the netherworld at the young bean sidhe and her loved ones. In this, the last of Rachel Vincent’s brilliant Soul Screamers series, Kaylee has had enough. She isn’t just going to get even; she’s going to get really really mad.

After her best friend Emma is forced to bury her old body and start her new life in another, Kaylee and team decide it’s time to turn the tables on the Hellions and try to beat them at their own game. What follows is a deadly battle of wills, as they attempt to act as bait. There is a real sense that this is the final battle and both teams are playing for keeps. It makes for intense reading, as one side seems to pull ahead only for it takes a completely different course.

Pacing of the book is intense, with bouts of action and huge amounts of tension. There are still moments of light humor, usual supplied by the brilliant back and forth of the group (in particular Sabine, I love that girl). There are some touching moments as relationships are mended and bridges rebuilt. I loved the direction Kaylee and Tod’s relationship took. It reaches new heights as he continues to be a constant source of support to her, especially in some of the darker moments.

The end was heartbreaking and so completely fitting for the characters and this series. It was with a heavy heart that I shut With All My Soul and said goodbye to these characters but it’s been one hell of a journey! This series will always be cherished.

Review :Crush (Crash #3) by Nicole Williams

Summary :

Football glory. A giant diamond. A wandering eye.

Jude and Lucy are happily engaged . . . but that doesn't mean life's a bed of roses.

Once again, Jude and Lucy are torn apart by football training and a summer job that creates new tensions. This time Jude's the one with trust issues. Will Lucy's life-changing news bring them back together or end their relationship for good? Can love triumph forever?

Review :

" I'll always come back, Luce. No matter how many rip-roaring fights we have and no matter how many miscommunications we have. I'll always come back because you're where I belong."

It's decided. Jude & Lucy have a special place in my heart forever! <3

I loved, let me repeat LOVED this book! The main thing that I loved about this book was that Jude and Lucy dealt with all of their problems, and they were so much determined and determined to keep their relationship strong.

There were all kinds of emotions, all sorts of misunderstanding, but at the end of the day there was this bright light of happiness.

Jude has improved a lot. Like way lot. I don't even know if that makes sense. I remember him in Crash. He was so violent, anger, and immature. And now in Crush, he is this sweet, responsible man, who accepted his life with his new wife and his daughter. Lucy, was a rollercoaster of emotions. And that was so very normal. She had been through a lot, and she just proved herself to be more strong. And I'm proud of both of them.

Their love was so pure, so unconditional and unadulterated that just when I thought they couldn't make me any more happy, they did. As I mentioned in the beginning, their story will be my favorite always!

Love will be sacrificed and lives lost in the terrible battle for the fate of the word in the thrilling final installment of the classic urban fantasy series The Mortal Instruments!

Review :

This was a great conclusion to this series. I'll lay my feelings out there and say that I really wished there was some way for Sebastian to redeem himself. Yes he was evil and all that but there was just something about him. I don’t know if it was his flashes of vulnerability or his need to be loved but I really hoped he would have had a different fate. Especially after Clary stabbed him in the end....I absolutely loved that guy into whom he transformed. Sebastian was a villain that I loved to hate but some part of me also rooted for him. Too bad Clary's hallucination didn't come true.

I am gonna miss these people SO SO much! JACE!!! Clary, Isabelle, Alec, Simon and even Magnus. I'm really happy with myself for grabbing the very first installment not even knowing that it's gonna give me such an amazing series and characters to love.

ARC REVIEW : Days of Throbbing Gristle by Kevin Cole

SUMMARY :

Does Heaven know you're miserable now?

It’s 1987. Sam Henry Hay, a 17-year-old exchange student from Sheffield, hops into Texas, USA, with one burning ambition: Manipulate his gullible host parents into funding his university, and leave his dead-end life in Yorkshire behind.

But is Sam manipulating America or America manipulating Sam? The clever lad schmoozes his way into many a bed and purse, yet can’t get rid of anyone. He executes careful plans, only to watch them disastrously fall apart. Worst of all, this once proud nihilist watches in horror as he reveals a conscience, in a world growing ever darker around him.

Days of Throbbing Gristle is not your typical teenage tale. It’s a razor-slashing journey through a time and place that really was as bad as you’ve heard. For some, high school is the best time in their lives. For others, it’s a miracle they make it to the other side.

REVIEW :

Days Of Throbbing Gristle is a very unusual read indeed. I haven’t read anything like it ever before. This book left me with mixed feelings. I really can’t put this story in a particular category, as it contains many layers.
The writing style is not what I’m used to, so it took me a while to get in the hang of it. When I read the summary of this book , I was like yeah okay, I can guess, along the way where the story is going and boy was I wrong, right until the last page.
DOTG is the story of Sam Hay, an exchange student from England who comes to America and lives with his host family as he finishes his last year of school and try and get into a uni.
I couldn’t really understand Sam’s character. I found him to be really complex. He could be sweet one minute and downright cruel the next. What was his deal? I hung in the balance of deciding whether Sam’s character was good or bad. I still haven’t decided. Whenever I thought okay, so he might have some redeeming qualities to him, he had to do something for me to take my though back. Although sometime I found his humor placed at the right place. I really loved his sarcastic butt than.
The other characters such as Jill or Chelsea were realistic enough and well written.  Donna, I absolutely loathed. She was horrible. Ugh! And Heather, that poor girl. I feel for her. Then there was Paul Chase. He was one of my favorite characters in the book and the ending he got was absolutely tragic. I felt terrible.
The book also deals with sensitive topics such as religion, drugs, sex, suicide and so on.  Some scenes were too vivid and abusive for my taste. But that could be just me. You could always read the book yourself and decide. You might enjoy it. I know I did, for the most part. Also the length of the book was long, as I don’t really go for such long books. If it was shorter I feel I could have enjoyed it more. Some parts just seems unnecessary for the story and led to being a drag.
And the climax, I wasn’t happy with. But leaving my happiness aside, this book was real. We all know real life isn’t all rosy and lovely. This book makes you deal with the hard truth of the world. I respect this book for that and all that it portrays. This is the kind of story that makes you stop and just think.
All in all, I wouldn't say I loved the book, but I also wouldn't say I hated it. I would without a doubt give the next book of Cole’s a try.
I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review. And I thank the author for this opportunity.
