Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .

70,000-80,000 words

Review :

Masquerade is one of those sexy, quick reads that pull you into the story, charm and bewitch you. It’s easy, it’s funny, it’s pretty darn adorable and has everything you wish for a one night of total bliss. Maybe it’s not a novel that you will cherish forever nor is it completely unique experience, but when you are looking for instant ‘read and have fun’ book, Masquerade will do great.

This story is about two very closed of people. They don’t tend to share their secrets or feelings with anyone. They’re living a lonely life. Both, Bee and Maddox have a fair amount of skeletons in the cupboards and don’t like to talk or even think about them. That’s way they try to avoid contact with people who could shatter their walls and see inside them. So relationship of an sorts are out of the questions. They only look for one night stand. The fortune, though had a few surprises for them.

After their spent one passionate night with each other and go their separate ways the next day they see each other again. Maddox wants to be apprentice in Bee’s tattoo parlor Masquerade.
Their passion for art, extreme stubbornness and off the charts lust brings them closer. But how close?

Overall, Masquerade is a read I recommend for those looking for something quick to read in between. It’s not my favorite book, and I won’t be coming back to it, but I had a blast and spent a nice, relaxing few hours.

Cade’s wedding in Menlo Park—a city close to San Francisco—might be the perfect place for Jake Knight to shake the memories of his ex, Emma Anderson for good. Single, available women galore for an entire week was the perfect medication, one he intended to take three times a day for an entire week to return to his player days. This is the first book in the 4 book series.  The second book will be released later this year.

 Except:

Nights meant sleep and dreams—my archenemies. The Crowley to my Dean Winchester, the Green Goblin to my Spider-man, the list of superheroes and their opposites was long, and so became the analogies I used on a daily basis. My lack of sleep began with Dad and his conditions for me to continue my art. Then came my parents' deaths. Those took a toll on me because I mixed dreams with realities and hopes. Not once did I have a nightmare, all of them were sweet and real. Seeing Mom and Dad on those nights filled my gut with nails, and my head pounded with the reminder that they were gone the next morning. Those had been merely fantasies that would never become a reality.

For the past three months I had been evading sleep and working overtime, over the overtime. The dreams of elevators, trips to sophisticated-secluded spots after a week of work and delicious nights with a man who I was required to forget in order to move on, came daily—nightly. They not only hit me with vengeance, but they came tangled with what humans liked to call hope. The urge to crawl inside myself to avoid the need of his touch, kisses and whatever it was that we had not long ago, consumed me. If I had the powers to morph into an animal, it’d be a sea turtle and I’d stay inside my shell for the next hundred years. Past the stage of melancholy and into the real world, I pushed my body outside of the bed and into the shower, where I got ready to face the Clements and the house next door.

Blog Tour Stop: Ex Factor By Elisa Dane

Blurb:

Nevaeh Evan’s life is uprooted after her father’s death, when she moves in with her aunt and cousin, Livvie. Her plan to lay low at her new high school isn’t working. Her friend’s jerky boyfriend keeps asking her out, the guy she likes treats her like garbage, and the thought of tumbling again makes her want to hurl.

So when her aunt pushes her into joining the elite X-FACTOR cheer leading squad, Navaeh goes along with it.

But Nev feels she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Not after what happened the night her father died.

Bodie Scott knows about grief all too well. Critically injured in an alcohol related accident the year before, Bodie struggles with the fact that he’ll never play football again, and he’s so far behind in credits he can’t see straight. That is, until he meets Nev. Haunted by their bloody pasts and wary of a shared future, Nev and Bodie turn to one another for comfort and support, and realize they’re not so alone after all. And when the party scene at school threatens the life of a loved one, the two stop at nothing to keep the past from repeating itself.

Excerpt:

“Ahh... Mr. Scott!” My gaze automatically swept to the front of the classroom, Keltar’s loud, obnoxious voice almost impossible to ignore. “So good of you to grace us with your presence today. I trust you’ve learned something during your time away from school? Violence is never the answer, young man.” Frowning, the surly Santa wannabe begrudgingly swept a pink slip of paper from a tall, muscular boy dressed in dark clothing.

My heart jumped a little in my chest as I surveyed the colossal mass of male student at the front of the class. What the hell were the people of Indigo Falls feeding their sons? Some type of über growth hormone? Over half the guys in the school looked as though they belonged on the cover of a weightlifting magazine—chiseled, as if cut from granite. And what was that about violence, and time away from school? Had he gotten into a fight? From his size, he looked like someone who could deliver massive amounts of pain with ease.

The new guy stood in complete silence as Keltar continued on, delivering the same tired speech he’d given me upon entering the room. The same nervous feeling that had plagued me when I entered the school just a short time ago returned with a vengeance, and I caught myself struggling to breathe. What the hell? The new guy, whoever he was, had a bizarre effect on me, and to be honest, it was freaking me out a little. I mean, hell... I hadn’t even seen his face and I had butterflies whirling in my stomach. How was that possible? What kind of person had that type of effect on people?

He turned around then, and the answers to my unspoken questions all but slapped me upside the face.

Holy Mary, Mother of Pearl...

If boys were classified into two shades: light and dark, my Paper Thief, Eli would hover somewhere in the realm of ivory or beige. But this new guy was dark. We’re talking black down to the very pit of his soul type dark.

Ebony eyes void of emotion swept over the room before finally settling on his seat: the empty chair next to Erin. Short, dark hair hugged his skull, bringing attention to the chiseled line of his jaw. His features were strong, hard, and entirely masculine—beautiful. No joke, he looked like an avenging angel hell bent on mayhem and destruction. Bad. The boy was bad to the bone.

Heat scorched my neck and cheeks and my pulse ratcheted up another notch.

Electricity arced through the air as he neared the table, and the oxygen in the room seemed to thin even more. Incapable of speech or movement, I sat open-mouthed, gaping at him like an imbecilic fool. The black T-shirt he wore stretched across his broad chest like a second skin, and revealed a set of arms, one of which sported a wicked tribal tattoo. His gait was confident, yet lazy, and clearly shouted “I don’t give a fuck. I’m only here because I have to be, so stay the hell out of my way.”

Erin cleared her throat and cast me a knowing “Well, well, well. Look who thinks the bad boy is hot” smirk.

The boy’s most stand out feature was a jagged scar which ran from the center of his skull, down along the top of his left ear. It ended just below the left half of his jaw. The skin was thick, raised and silvery pink making it obvious that whatever trauma had placed it there hadn’t happened that long ago.

Heat scored the base of my skull, and I reached, as if on autopilot, for the fat, rigid bump that crawled across my hairline. How had he gotten his scar? A hundred different scenarios played out in my head, none of which included the circumstance that had earned me mine.

Excerpt:

The world is a great, white light as I open my eyes. Too bright.

I screw my eyes shut once more, listening. It seems safe, just the hum and beep of machines. The slight echo of footsteps and voices in the hallway.

Turning my head left and then right, I check my body. Though I’m sore as hell, I can still move everything. Slitting my eyes open, I take in my surroundings, startled to find Everly curled up in a chair beside my hospital bed.

She’s sleeping, still wearing the same green dress I’d seen her in the day I got shot. Only the hem is about a foot shorter and there are purple shadows under eyes. How long has she been here? How long have I been here?

“Two days,” the nurse says, walking inside. “Welcome back, Mr. Smith.”

I find my voice. My throat is scratchy, and it burns. “Two days?”

“We almost lost you, but that angel sleeping beside you wouldn’t give up. I’ve never seen someone pray so fiercely for another human being. She even donated blood—you’re a lucky man to have a fiancée like her. And she must be a lucky woman to have you, because ain’t no man worth getting that worked up over, unless he’s a good one.”

I glance at Everly just in time to see her cheeks turn a rosy pink. Sleeping angel has a bit of the devil in her.  Still, it’s… nice to wake up to a familiar face.

The last time I was put in the hospital, no one came to see me. No one came to check on me, to see if I was alive, or could walk, or eat, or fucking talk. I’d lie in a stark hospital room for days it seemed, until they discharged me. Then I collected my things and walked out, a stranger in a strange land once more.

“I am very lucky,” I say softly.

Once the nurse finishes checking my vitals and leaves, I count to twenty before calling Everly’s bluff.

“Love, I know you’re awake. No one blushes in their sleep.”

Her eyes pop open, and a chagrinned look graces her face. “I woke up when the nurse came in, but when she said all that… there was no way I could face you.”

I sit up in bed, pressing the remote to allow the mattress to help me. “Sometimes falsehoods must be told in order to protect or help others.”

“You would have gotten medical care whether I lied or not,” she admits, turning her pretty face away from me. “But I was afraid to let you out of my sight. I even rode in the ambulance.”

She had ridden in the ambulance? The vague memory of a woman weeping softly and holding my hand stirs in my mind, but I’m not sure if it’s my mother or Everly. My mother wept a great many nights after my father left her for the family he always wanted.

I flex all ten fingers, the black tattoos on my hands rippling with the movement.

“Do those have a meaning?” she asks, sitting up and adjusting her dress.

“Yes.”

“A secret meaning?”

Only to you, solnyshko. “I liked the look of them.”

Her lips twist a little, as if she doesn’t quite believe me. “That’s too bad. I was hoping for something with a story behind it.”

My story would make you wish you never met me. “You read too many romance novels,” I grumble, looking around for the container of ice or water that always seems to be on hand in hospitals. I reach for the Styrofoam container, but Everly jumps up, gently pushing my arm away.

“Let me help you,” she says. She fills up a cup with water and sticks a straw in before coming back to me. “Here, drink this.”

I’m perfectly able to hold the cup with my uninjured arm and hand, but the selfish part of me wants to be fussed over. Especially by her. I allow her to hold the cup to my mouth, to take the straw between her fingers, and to gently push it between my parted lips.

Emma Harris is learning that life is just a series of lessons.

Lesson #1: Nothing goes the way you plan.

Lesson #2: You can’t trust men. Especially not the pretty ones.

Lesson #3: Turns out, appearances are almost always deceiving.

Emma thinks she has life all figured out, and what she knows isn’t good. For years, she’s put her big sister, who was born with Down syndrome, first. Now Emma’s ready to start her own life, but fate has other plans. To do the right thing for the sister she loves, Emma’s dreams will just have to wait.

She doesn’t plan on meeting Landon — a rich, flirtatious jock, who never has to wait for anything. Not for attention, not for money, and certainly not for girls. Meeting Emma marks the first time in his life that he’s had to fight for something. And Landon doesn't know how to lose.

Emma has no interest in wasting her summer with a superficial guy like Landon. But very soon she realizes she is wrong about him. The question is, can she trust him? Or will he let her down like every other guy in her life? But most importantly, can Emma trust herself enough to live the life she's always dreamed of?

Life has a way of sneaking in the most important lessons when you aren't looking. And once the heart gets involved, that's when the real learning begins.

Left at the alter, heart broken and ashamed, Dacotah takes the opportunity offered by her girlfriends - the chance to get away. The opportunity to escape her mundane life in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin.

But what Dacotah doesn't know is that lurking in Las Vegas is the chance of a lifetime, a dream come true, in the form of Derek Hunter.

Derek, in town on business, can't seem to focus on his purpose once Dacotah walks into his field of vision. She beautiful and just what he needs to cure his desire for a good woman in his bed. Only she presents a challenge to him unlike anything he's ever experienced before.

Dacotah will be wrapped up in a whirlwind of unexpected events that will force her to make a decision, life changing choice. Does she get on the plane back to boring Wisconsin and wonder what might have been? Or will she step on board a private jet that promises to take her on a journey she will never forget?

Excerpt 1
“Orion huh?” I jump at the voice in my ear and try to spin around but he pins me to the side of the pool. I should fight to free myself, but the sound of his voice, the smell of his cologne, my drunkenness and the instant wetness between my legs has me paralyzed.
“You never told me your name.” I breathe.
“Orion is fine, for now.” He replies, but he doesn’t ask me for my name, and I wonder idly if he already knows. Whether having heard Mandy say it, or something else. I feel him press into me a little harder and I can feel ever inch of his warm, pool soaked body against my back. My toes reach down, seeking the bottom of the pool and I find it. Steadying myself against him. I suddenly realize that I want this man, badly.
“Why the secrets?” I ask him.
“Why not? Isn’t it more fun this way?” His mouth is right at my ear and I can feel the warmth of his breath caressing my face, along my cheek and down my neck. I shiver and feel my nipples harden. My desire for him is hot and I’m surprised because I’ve never in my life been so turned on.
“No.” I answer his question. “Well, maybe it is for you, you have control.”
“Just the way I like it.” His hands begin to glide along my arms, to my shoulders, across to my neck, but the contact of his front to my back never falters. “You, in my control, wanting and willing to do anything my heart desires.”
My breathing hitches and fear spikes in my veins, but it is quickly cooled by his lips on my shoulder, right where it meets my neck. His kiss is hot and soft. I can feel the stubble of his goatee prickling along my skin and goosebumps form across my entire body. I shiver. My breathing hitches and I bite my lip to stifle a moan. He knows exactly what he’s doing because he doesn’t stop. His hands are tracing down my sides, light as feathers, and his lips continue their way along my shoulder, back to my neck.
Suddenly one of his hands disappears and I feel his fingers on the back of my neck, grabbing at my wet hair and gently moving it over my right shoulder.
“Well, aren’t you just full of secrets.” He says into my ear and then he kisses along my hairline, along the infinity tattoo on the back of my neck over to my other shoulder. His hands are gliding down past my hips, playing with the stings on my bikini and my heart rate spikes as I imagine him untying it, exposing me to the pool. But he doesn’t stop. His hands glide down my thighs, as far as he can go without pulling himself underwater. I can’t help the flick of my hips that comes at his touch and I’m not sure if it is a reaction to tickling or my need for him. His breath hitches and I do it, voluntarily, again.
His hands come to my hips and he grips them, stilling me. “If you don’t stop, I will take you in the pool. Right now. No matter who sees.”
I am beginning to feel dizzy when I realize I’m holding my breath, I let it out in a rush trying to fight the urge to flick my hips. I want this man and I don’t even know his name.
