   Excerpt:

I heard it first: the loud high-pitched scream of a child. It was Adelaide. No doubt in my mind. I took off running in the direction of the sound, west. Her screams didn't diminish in the slightest. “Adelaide!” I called, hearing the ear-piecing scream of a child. She sounded afraid. My heart pounded and my nerves wrestled with me. There was nothing I had to be frightened of. Adelaide was okay, she was screaming, right? That had to be a good sign?

“Olivia!” Her voice answered me with another shrill scream as I tore through tall grasses, running towards the stream where I'd been just before our last council meeting. I could hear Collins lag behind me, trailing in my footsteps. He wasn't far but he wasn't as fast either.

“I'm coming,” I answered, my knees lifting higher as I stopped dead in my tracks, finding a bloody corpse. I glanced up, seeing Adelaide bent over the body, her clothes covered in blood. Her cheeks flushed and eyes filled with tears.

“He's dead!” She wailed as I bent down to pick her up, trying my best to shield her from what she'd seen, though I knew it was too late.

I could hear Collins’ muttered curse as he finally caught up, seeing the disfigured corpse. “This isn't good,” he rasped, glancing from me to the little girl. “Take her home, get her cleaned up. We're having an emergency meeting this afternoon,” he announced. “There's an outlaw near Shadow.”

I have always loved writing, telling stories, and the idea of dreaming big because where I come from, you dream big or you don't dream at all. I'm a full-time author with my slightly insane cat, Juey, who is always happy to keep me company as he so often thinks he can lay on my keyboard to "assist" my writing. I write stories because life wouldn't be as fun without the occasional break from reality.

I am the author of the YA paranormal romance Flightless Bird series, the mature YA/New Adult paranormal romance Fighting Fate series and many more stories to come. When I'm not writing it's either because I ran out of iced tea, I'm out

Excerpt:

“Kaddy, wait.” I heard Mike trailing me as I turned out of the Wheel Barrel.

I pressed a hand to my temple and sighed. “Yeah?”

“You okay? I know you didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.” Mike scratched the back of his head and looked down at me, worried. “Maybe some lunch will help.”

“What I need is sleep, and what needs to happen is for me to stop having these stupid night terrors.” I leaned back against the hot brick building for a moment.

“You can’t help it. It’s not your fault.” Mike leaned on his shoulder next to me, his hands deep in his apron pockets.

“I know, but I hate it. Why can’t they stop?” I smacked my hand to my forehead and sighed. Against my palm, my skin felt too warm. Was I getting sick? Great. It was the last thing I needed. “Do I feel warm to you?” I dropped my hand and looked over at Mike, giving him permission to touch me with a simple confirmation from my eyes.

Slowly raising his arm, the back of his hand pressed against my cheek. “Damn, Kaddy. You’re burning up! Do you feel all right?”

I shrugged. I did feel all right, just a little warm. “I feel fine. I need some sleep. Promise to plan on going to bed early tonight?” I doubted he would keep this promise. He and I always stayed up late writing music.

Mike got a playful glint in his eye. “You know I’m a night owl. No promises there.”

I sighed and rolled my eyes. “We both are.”

Mike still had his hand pressed against my cheek until it shifted up to tug his gray beanie down on my forehead. “Maybe it’s just my awesome hat that’s making you overheat. Who wears a beanie in August?” he joked and I playfully scowled at him as I readjusted the knitted beanie.

“Oh, I’m sure that’s it,” I laughed and gave him a gentle punch on the arm.

“Whoa.” He took a step back. “You been working out or something? That hurt.” Mike held his upper arm like I had socked it with everything I had. I stood there waiting with my “really?” look and raised my eyebrows in anticipation for his mischievous face to appear. If Mike was anything, he was a jokester. Just like I expected, a few seconds later, he cracked a smile on his lips and started laughing.

“You always think your little jokes are hilarious!” Even when I rolled my eyes, I couldn’t stop his infectious laughter from causing me to laugh.

“Kadster, we know I tell the best jokes. I eat sarcasm for breakfast every day.” He winked and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. I didn’t shy from his touch.

“So do I, but no one but you find anything I say funny.” I looked up at him as he walked me to the corner of the block, the direction of home. Only Mike called me the Kadster. Actually, he had a lot of nicknames for me and I didn’t mind it. He was one of the few I would let getaway with calling me things other than my name.

“It’s because everyone is just jealous of the awesome friendship we’ve had since we were eight. Haters gonna hate.” He shrugged and his other hand pretended to dust off his shoulder. Mike was the only friend I counted on for anything. Long ago, we made a pact, and so far, he’s kept every word he promised to keep.

**{Blog Tour Stop}** Excerpt + Giveaway : Come Full Circle By Natalie-Nicole Bates

Fifteen years ago, Bethany Minor fled her hometown after being left at the alter by Dane Brennan. After the sudden death of her mother, she is forced to return home and face her past.

The years have been hell for Dane, and seeing Bethany again only reopens wounds he long thought closed.

When they realize the flames of their past love never died, Bethany and Dane will need to confess all before they can have a chance to reclaim their life that once should have been.

But when the truth of the past is finally revealed, will they still stand as a couple?

Excerpt:

Dane felt strangely nervous about meeting Bethany. What could she possibly have that belonged to him? When he’d seen her earlier, at first she’d barely acknowledged his presence.

But when she hugged him so hard it almost took his breath away, all of the old
feelings came welling back up inside him, along with the regret of losing her, and the
promise of everything a life with her would have brought.

The feelings of loss and sadness became so acute, that he could actually feel a pain
in his chest. He’d made so many mistakes, and the gravity of those mistakes was still apparent.

Finally, he caught sight of her walking slowly up the street toward him. She was dressed only in a loose-fitting old sweatshirt and jeans, totally inappropriate for the cold, rainy weather. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to take her in
his arms, and beg her for a second chance. That, he would not do. He still had some
semblance of pride and reality.

“Bethany, why did you walk here in the rain? I would have been happy to come to you,” he said, and dared to push a few errant strands of her dark hair away from her face.

“I need fresh air. Being in my mother’s house with all of her things…it was closing in on me.”

“I’m sorry. Would you like to get out of the rain? We could go somewhere and get a cup of coffee, and talk,” he suggested hopefully.

“I’m not really to being around a lot of people, Dane. The funeral will be hard enough.”

“Would you like to come home with me for a while? At least you won’t be alone.”

He made the offer, but from the look on her face, he already guessed her answer.

“No. Thank you for offering, though.”

Her refusal made it sound as though she’d said no to a business associate, not someone she’d once loved.

After a few minutes of silence, she spoke again.

“So anyway, here is what I came to give you.” She produced a small, familiar-looking box, from the front packet of her jeans.

He licked his lips. “I hope that’s not what I think it is.”

She lifted the lid, and as he feared, it was the engagement ring he’d given her, when he thought of her as his princess. The round diamond twinkled proudly under the harshness of the street lights.

“I don’t want it back,” he stated firmly. He didn’t ever want to see it again. The ring was a harsh reminder of what might have been.

“Well, I don’t want it either, Dane. It belongs to you. I thought my mother returned it to you after…after we broke up. It was wrong for her to keep it.”

She was trying to push the box into his hand, but he refused to open his hand and stepped back from her.

“Throw it into the garbage, Bethany.” He pointed to the public trash receptacle.

“I can’t throw it away; it’s too expensive!” she exclaimed.

“Then give it away, donate it, sell it! I don’t care!”

When she shrank back, he realized his tone was harsher than he’d intended. Immediately, he stepped forward and pulled her into his arms. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he repeated over and over again.

He wasn’t sure exactly, how it happened, but his lips found their way to hers. He closed his eyes and basked in her familiarity, her taste, and his tongue gently parted her lips. As their kiss deepened, he became keenly aware of the contrast of the intense heat coming from her skin, and the icy coldness of her hand on his neck. In that one moment, he was ready to beg Bethany to escape with him forever.

 “Hey, Mr. Brennan.”

The voice jolted him back to reality. A teenage boy held the hand of a teenage girl as they passed by. They looked vaguely familiar; most likely they were from the
neighborhood.

“Hey,” he answered back.

“Hear that? If I’m Mr. Brennan, what does that make my father?” he whispered into Bethany’s ear.

Without a word, she tilted her head back and connected her beautiful espresso brown eyes―the eyes he’d fallen in love with―to his, and held him captive.

There was so much he wanted to say to her, but the words wouldn’t come. He touched a hand to her cheek, and found that her skin burned beneath his fingertips.

 He then spoke the obvious.

“Bethany, you’re burning up with fever. You can’t be alone tonight. Come home, and let me take care of you,” he implored.

She blinked a few times, and he held a tiny hope she would agree to leave with him, but she reached up and ran her fingers through his beard, and said, “You know I can’t do that.”

“Well, at least, let’s go to the apartment upstairs at BFC. I lived there for a few years. It’s really nice.”

Her eyes grew huge. “I never want to go to that apartment again!”
Then she darted away from him, and hurried off in the opposite direction. For a moment, he simply watched her leave, perplexed at her final words. Why was she so upset at the mention of the apartment? It wasn’t as though she ever stayed there. It was mostly for interns from the mortuary college, who were on-call during the night.

He slowly crossed the street and walked to his car. Reaching his hand into the pocket of his jacket to get his keys, he found the box with the engagement ring. A caustic laugh escaped his throat. While he was lost in their kiss, she’d found a way to return the ring.

“Finish getting ready. We’re outta here in a few minutes,” he said, then turned his back to her. She struggled to retort from the total body meltdown.
“Are we heading back to your apartment?”
“Yes,” he said just as he disappeared from the doorway.
“Good.” She raised her voice. “You can drop me off at the bus stop then.” Chase’s head swayed back in the doorway. “Come again?”
“I’m going home, but I’ll be back in time for Caplin’s arrival on Thursday.” Chase stepped back into the room. “Why do you want to go home?” The question caught her off guard. She’d assumed he’d be pleased to be rid of her. Nonetheless, telling him the truth wasn’t an option
. “As you said, the only reason we needed to spend time together was so I could get to know you, so we can convince Caplin we’re married.” His forehead wrinkled. “And you feel like you know me now?” “Well enough to pull off a bullshit marriage, yes.”
“Hmm.” He rubbed his chin, then dropped his hand and took a step toward her. His intense regard held her captive. She clung to those dark eyes, waiting for him to say something.
“I don’t want you to go.” His low, husky words resonated in her ears. Her body hesitated, her heart skipped, and her nerves stammered. She was convinced that all of her senses had failed her, because she was sure she hadn’t heard him right.
“What?” “There’re a few more things you need to know about me in order to successfully pull this off, Jessina.” Every single one of her senses came back to life as he approached her. “Will you stay here with me just one more night?” he asked, stopping in front of her. “So I can show them to you?” “What?” Heat flushed through her body once more.
“What sort of things?” Dark, ravishing eyes dropped to her mouth as he drew a finger down the side of her cheek. It trailed along her neck, gently grazing her shoulder and caressing the length of her arm. “The sort of things I would do with my real wife.”
He looked back up at her, his hand now settled on her hip. The weight of his touch caused her stomach to clench with desire. His hand shifted to the small of her back, and her next breath got caught in her throat. “I want to show you how my wife would make me feel when I’m this close to her.” He applied light pressure with his hand to her back, and the space between them descended. Their bodies became one.
“Chase…” His name fell from her lips in a near whisper when his hardness pressed into her tight-with-desire belly.
“Jessina…” he hissed back in a throaty murmur…

Dawning Apocalypse By Jill Cooper
(The Dream Slayer #3)

Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Protection, murder, deception....

No one can know Natalie works for a supernatural protection agency and is charged with protecting Meadow’s Creek from vampires. But as their numbers swell, their presence doesn't go unnoticed throwing her town under the microscope from the local government and the FBI.

Natalie’s job is pushed even further into the shadows where she must dodge the police, concerned citizens and even her own parents.

Meanwhile a deadly plague grips the town and Natalie suspects it’s more than just a hacking cough. While the stress of working overtime erodes her relationships she will race against time, illness, to face a familiar enemy, save an old friend, and stop an undead seize that wants nothing more than to suck Meadow’s Creek dry.

Excerpt :
Behind the backdrop of the moonlight she saw a human form moving, shadowing the
movement of several officers on the west side of the building.
“Bob’s still here.” Natalie used their keyword for vampires since the media had dubbed
the ‘serial killer’ Pinhole Bob thanks to the marks left on the victims’ necks. “He’s on the
move.”

Her ear cleared of static. “Be careful,” Charles Buckle, her guide and old mentor said with a
stern sharpness to his voice. She didn’t have a cover story if she got caught and the last thing she
needed right now was having her parents awoken in the middle of the night by the police.
Natalie managed to skirt closer by ducking car to car. She reached down and gathered some
small pebbles, but they were big enough to do what she needed them to do.

Reaching her arm back, Natalie propelled them toward the police cruisers and then ducked
down low, her back against the tires and her knees bent to hide her frame. The flashlights from
the officers changed direction and their footsteps moved to investigate the noise.

Natalie used that time to move around the side of the car and duck behind the other side
of the apartment building. Using a drain pipe, she climbed the side of the house like she was
Miss Piggy in the Great Muppet Caper, only with more skill and more comfortable shoes, and
launched herself onto the roof.

She sailed through the air, her legs extended and the soles of her boots collided with the
chest of a fangy vampire, his eyes glowing yellow like the rodent he was. His back crunched
against the roof and Natalie rolled onto her feet, reaching inside her pocket and retrieving her
wooden stake.
She gave it a spin for bravado and took an offensive stance. The vampire launched an attack,
swinging his mighty claws, but his eyes flashed recognition.
He stopped. Recoiling away, he hissed a warning.
“Finish it.” Natalie taunted. “I’m just a girl. Come here and take me on.”
All vampires fought to the death, but not this one. He ran like he was afraid, like he was
acting on more than just instinct. “Hey!” Natalie called and lunged; grabbing the hem of his
jacket and yanking him backwards.
He growled, his nose against hers. There was no fight in him at all. He was the most non-
vampire vampire she had ever fought. When Natalie pushed the wooden stake into his chest, it
was too anticlimactic. Like the battle had to be fierce to be on, but he just dissolved.
Into a black puddle, like they always did.

And then there were a dozen small lights shining on her.
Crap, Natalie thought and dove to the ground, rolling against the flat roof. Voices ran out
from downstairs. “Someone is on the roof!”
She scampered across the rooftop on all fours, keeping her belly low to the ground. When
she reached the other side, footsteps charged the fire escape. Her heart galloped so fast in her
chest, she could barely breathe. There was no time to think or plan, Natalie just had to react.
She jumped off the roof, landed in a squat on the dumpster below, and dove onto the grass.

She fell into a rolling summersault and before she knew which way was up, Natalie was charging
from the street. But she wasn’t alone, there were officers charging her and in the distance, a car
engine reved to life. Sirens turned to full volume.

If ever Natalie needed an emergency super spy extraction, it was right then. But there was
no one that could help her. Only she could get herself out of this. Heck, Natalie had created a
dream dimension out of nothing where everyone she knew had an alter personality. She herself
was the all-powerful slayer. What would the slayer do?
She couldn’t get caught. She couldn’t be arrested or let the secret out, not without WOMP

being seriously pissed of at her. Natalie didn’t know if she was right or wrong, but she needed to hide.
And hide fast.
