On the same night that twenty four-year-old Jordyn Sims has a miscarriage, her sister-in-law Tori Sims conceives a child. Nine months later, Tori, a long term heroin addict, abandons her two-hour-old drug addicted newborn Jeremiah, in a hospital stairwell. Jordyn receives the news and pursues foster adoption. However, Oscar, Tori's possessive drug-addicted boyfriend, is not about to give Jeremiah up so easily. While in confrontation with Tori and Oscar, Jordyn seeks help from the Administration of Children Services (ACS), only to discover she is faced with a maze of departments, regulations, legalities and overworked social workers. Jordyn, however, remains strong and continues to push through the uphill battle, even after she discovers she's pregnant.

With all odds against her adoption of Jeremiah, and her pregnancy at high risk from increasing stress, will Jordyn win this tough battle, or will her world crumble before her?

Claiming Jeremiah is a fictional memoir on foster adoption. It gives you an informative experience on what it is like to adopt from foster care while showing you the point of view of the birth parents.

Julian knocked softly on the door and pushed it slowly open. He pulled Jordyn to him.

“Baby,” he whispered. “Oh, baby, baby.” He gently brushed the hair out of her face. Jordyn looked up at him.

“Julian, I don’t want to stop fighting for Jeremiah.”

“I know you don’t, baby. But Tori is going to make this  extremely hard.”

“I don’t care. We’re his family. Forget what your sister says.”

“I’m with you, babe,” said Julian softly. “I wasn’t on board fully, but the more I think about it, the more I realize you’re right. Jeremiah is much better off here with us.”

He caressed her stomach. “Is it true?” he whispered. “Are we having a baby?”

“It’s true.” She giggled suddenly, excited by the thought.

“When did you find this out?” he asked, hugging her and planting little kisses all over her face.

“Today at the doctor.” She was giggling with excitement like a little girl. Julian laughed too.

“I thought the doctors said it would be hard for us to get pregnant again.”

“I know,” she said in amazement. “It’s a miracle, isn’t it?”

“I love you, Jordi,” Julian whispered fiercely. “For real. You the bomb. Every day I thank God for bringing you to me. I don’t know what I did to deserve you, but I’m grateful. You’ve shown me what it’s like to be rich. Not rich in money, but rich in happiness.”

“We can do this,” she said gravely. “Our family is happening, not the way we planned, but it’s happening. I won’t give up on one child just because a turn of events has changed the dynamics. No, Julian. I am not a quitter. We are not quitters.”

“No, we’re not,” he said.

“Give me your hand.” Jordyn placed his hand over her belly.

“This is our child, our future, our priority. I know everything will be okay and God will grant us this child. Everything will be okay this time. I can feel it.”

Jordyn removed his hand and positioned both his hands as if he were cradling a baby. “Now this is Jeremiah. Your blood. Our family. He doesn’t have a voice. We have to fight for him. We have to prove our worthiness for him, and God will bless us with him, too. Just like our child in my womb. I’ll continue to keep my body healthy for our unborn child, and I will continue to fight for Jeremiah, so that one day God will bring us all together as a family.”

Julian pulled her close and folded her in a tight hug.
